Saint Brigid’s Feast Day

The Eve of the Celebration

Tomorrow the 1st of February marks Brigid’s Feast Day, so today on the Eve of this celebration, let’s explore the enchanting tradition of the Brat Bhride, or Brigid’s Cloak.

On the evening before the feast, the tradition is to lay a special cloth outside before sunset. Many people choose a scarf or ribbon. This act honors Brigid, the ancient Spring Goddess and Saint.

During the night, the cloth collects dew, which is believed to be blessed by Brigid, imbuing it with healing and protective powers that last throughout the year. This sacred cloth is then, used to soothe sore throats, ease headaches, and even bless animals!

It’s a beautiful way to connect with nature and the changing seasons! On the Celtic calendar Spring starts on the 1st of February, on the feast of Imbolc/Brigid’s Day, marking the end of winter and celebrating the reawakening of nature.

Will you be joining in this magical tradition? We have our scarves out waiting ☘️
